2017 The Governors Ball Music Festival - Day 3

Every year, Austin, Texas hosts Hi, How Are You Day in honor of Daniel Johnston, and the 2020 installment will be a special yet somber event, as it will mark the first after the influential singer-songwriter's death. Cage The Elephant is set to headline the tribute concert, which will also feature sets from White Denim, TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, Katie Schecter and Jason Falkner, with more special guests yet to be announced. The mini-festival is set to go down January 22 at Austin’s ACL Live at the Moody Theater. January 22 also happens to be Johnston's birthday. Tickets go on sale December 6, and proceeds will benefit the Hi, How Are You Project — a nonprofit named after Johnston's 1983 album and formed to help educate the world about the importance of discussing mental health openly. “This year’s Hi How Are You Day will have special significance as it’s the first event since Daniel’s passing. Many of the artists who will be performing have a long and close history with Daniel and his music,” Johnston’s long-time manager and co-founder of the Hi, How Are You Project Tom Gimbel said in a statement.“Their support has been really meaningful over the past two months. I’m excited to see that spirit of love and community take the stage at ACL Live at the Moody Theater on January 22.”

Johnston died of natural causes on September 11 at the age of 58. He struggled with mental health issues for most of his adult life and used music as an outlet.
